CONCERT NEWS

Sunday 7 April 2024, 3.00pm - Michael is making his first playing visit to St Andrew's Church, Rushmere, near Ipswich, and may well be giving some in the audience their first experience of an Orchestrelle push-up instrument. The programme will include music by Roger Quilter, Cyril Scott, Alexander Mackenzie, Henry Balfour Gardiner and Percy Grainger.

Saturday 4 November 2023, 2.30pm - a concert in aid of the organ fund at Chingford Parish Church, during which Michael played:
Military March by Franz Schubert, Piano Concerto no 2 Op 18 by Serge Rachmaninoff, Spanish Dances Op 12 (no 5 Bolero) by Moritz Moszkowski, Berceuse & Après un rêve by Gabriel Fauré, A Midsummer Night's Dream by Felix Mendelssohn, Invitation to the Dance by Carl Maria von Weber, Tipperary - Six Variations for Pianoforte by Arthur M Goodhart, Violin Concerto Op 64 by Felix Mendelssohn and Liebesfreud by Fritz Kreisler.

Tuesday 15 August 2023, 12.15pm - a return invitation to the National Musicians' Church, Holy Sepulchre Holborn Viaduct. As part of their Summer Music Festival, Michael performed:
A Children’s Overture by Roger Quilter, Mazurka Opus 10 No 1 by Edward Elgar, Five Studies for Pianoforte by Dorothy Howell, Five Pieces for Pianoforte by H Balfour Gardiner and Peter Warlock's Capriol Suite for Piano Duet.

 

Friday 14 April 2023, 1.00pm - Michael's postponed April 2020 concert eventually took place at the Royal Albert Hall in the Elgar Room. As well as performing pieces by Edward Elgar, Fritz Kreisler and Carl Maria von Weber, he described the history of the instrument, and how he and it make their musical magic.

 

Friday 7 October 2022, 1.15pm - a Music-at-Hill Midtown Concert at St Giles in the Fields. Michael played:
Die Fledermaus Waltzes by Johann Strauss, The Prize Song from Richard Wagner's Die Meistersinger, The Jewels of the Madonna - Intermezzo No 2 by Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari, The Maiden and the Nightingale by Enrique Granados, and Chanson Boheme from George Bizet's Carmen.

Tuesday 9 August 2022, midday - for the Summer Music Festival at Holy Sepulchre London (the National Musicians’ Church), Michael played music by Roger Quilter, John Ireland, York Bowen, Josef Holbrooke, Cyril Scott and a piece specially arranged for the Pianola by Percy Grainger. Friday 4th March 2022 - Michael made a well-received return trip to the Potters Bar United Reformed Church to play music by Moszkowski, Tchaikovsky, Schubert, Rachmaninoff and Friml. To acknowledge events in Ukraine, he added for his finale a piece by Wassily Sapellnikoff, who was born in Odessa in 1867. Michael hoped it was sufficiently defiant. (The retiring collection and the Charity Lunch that followed raised £315 for the DEC Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal). Wednesday 4 November 2020, 1.00pm - Michael was welcomed by the Potters Bar United Reformed Church to perform for their second Autumn Lunchtime Recital. Ignacy Paderewski, Felix Mendelssohn and Gabriel Faure were included in a wide selection of composers whose music has been translated to piano rolls. Thursday 20 February 2020 - Michael had a large attendance for the Coffee Concert at Guildford Cathedral.

 

Friday 6 September 2019, 12.40pm - was another invitation to visit St Chad's Church, Shrewsbury. The programme included pieces by Granados, Turina and Albeniz, and Moszkowski's transcription of the Chanson Boheme from Bizet's Carmen.

Sunday 16 July 2017, 4.45pm - a free concert with organist Peter Holder at St Paul's Cathedral (who had just been appointed the sub-Organist at Westminster Abbey).
